Maria Assimakopoulou-Sorensen

Member of board and global networks empowering women and girls

Maria, in her 30-year public and private Brussels career, has influenced numerous EU policies and acquired a deep knowledge of their impact on member states, businesses and citizens. Maria headed up the Economic Department at the Greek Permanent Representation to the EU during the economic crisis. She has in succession been a spokesperson for the European Commission, a negotiator for the EU enlargement and Head of a major European organisation driving urban sustainability. Presently, she advises Governments and corporates at FIPRA International, Brussels, on economic governance, financial services, capital markets, urban development, social impact, public communication and EU funding. Maria is committed to breaking gender stereotypes and has advocated for the Inspiring Girls International campaign, which connects and confronts girls around the world with successful female role models that serve as examples to follow. With her experience and knowledge, Maria is keen to help women and girls to release their potential and seize the opportunities for their personal and professional development. She holds a MA in International Economics from Reading University UK and a BA from Athens University. She speaks Greek, and is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
